Writing as a Man:: I grew up in a house full of women. How do you talk to a woman about the fact that you're becoming a young man? Singer explains how he found his outlet in a journal. I discovered how much I like girls and how scared of them I was

INSPIRATION VS. IMITATION::
I Did The Talent Show On A Dime:: On a dare, I did a talent show at the high school that I was attending at the time. I didnt go for singing because too scared. Instead, I went for it for visual art. My first ever stint with homelessness.
How Many Songs Did You Write Before So Sick:: How many songs do you think youve written before we met? So Sick was your first massive solo song. Did you write a song every day? Thousands of thousands songs every single day. Just get it done.
Two Career Plans:: Youve had two amazing careers by the grace of God, one as an artist and one as a songwriter. How do you look at that? Almost everything that I planned completely bottomed out. I learned that you can say no.
Neo on Sosick:: When we first heard about you, the song was already on radio. The moment you sang it, I knew that remember you went. The rest is history. It shows how fragile some of these magic moments and success can be.
Stargate:: Stargate let the music speak for itself. The melodies are effortless. Its rare that the song writes itself. Thats real rare when that does happen, but its always magic.
The Best:: When the group first came to America, they felt like they needed to sound like other music. But they found themselves creatively, and they started trusting their own guts. What comes natural to you, what feels like its coming from the heart, is yours.
On Lyric Writing:: The singer says he is a natural storyteller. His lyrics are original, but it never feels contrived. Where do all these stories come from and where does that gift come from?
I Can't Love You by Beyone:: We need to get this to a female was written by singer-songwriter. The song was inspired by his aunt's ridiculous love life. Sometimes the songs that don't fit are the ones that make the biggest impact.
The song To the Left didn't fit Beyonce's album:: To the left, to the left didn't fit Beyonce's album. The song went to number one and stayed there for ten weeks. Neil says it's proof how fragile success is.
On Rihannas:: The song is basically from a female perspective. I wanted to make the woman kind of the bad guy, but at the same time, I wanted you to feel for her. In the beginning, Rihannas vocal ability was slightly questionable. I was blown away the first time I heard it.
Rihanna:: Unfaithful was a riskier record for Rihanna. For whatever reason, this piano put me in the mind of highway to the Danger Zone. And she smashed it. Thoroughly impressed.
Guitar Lessons From Good Producers:: I would just like the producers of tomorrow to get a little bit more creative with the sampling, he says. Let your music speak for itself and above all, leave room for the person writing the song.
Columbia Records First Record Deal:: How did your first record deal actually come about? I was working with this production company. Columbia Records made an offer, and I initially said no. I dont regret it, because I learned a lot from the failure of that situation.
Neils Songwriting Process:: Neils songwriting process is very different from what a lot of other people do. He writes the song out in perfect form in no more than an hour. Do you typically start with a hook or do you go from top of the song or how do you it kind of depends.
How To Write a Song With a Million Melodies:: The hardest part for me, is that I can always hear a billion different ways to go. The melody that you can hear once, maybe twice, and repeat is probably the one that should be your hook melody. Those are the ones that they just kind of come second nature.
How To Write a Song With a Concept:: Song title almost always comes last, because sometimes you want to be whats the word? Not specific. Concept is another element of it that takes a little bit of time. Ive never felt like the song title was as important as the content of the record.
Becoming a Successful Artist:: A lot of things have changed since when he first got in. Artist development is a thing of the past. The more authentic you are as an artist, the better youll come across.
Dont Chase The Fashion:: Neo says to hell with a gimmick. Be who the hell you are unapologetically and let your audience find you. Dont chase. The ultimate goal as an artist is to be the brand yourself.
What Made Closer So Successful?:: The singer says record labels forced him to do pop music. He says he pride himself on being able to do any genre of music. Be led by your mind in your art, but dont let it lead you in your business.
On Kendrick Lamar's No Rules:: How do you feel about other people taking your music and now sampling it and making their own? If youre going to sample, reimagine, reinvent, recreate, dont grab the first eight bars and loop it. Thats not a new track.
milo on Miss Independent:: Mikkel: Miss Independent is a song about my favorite kind of woman. The woman that isnt afraid to get her hands dirty. The music that I wrote the song to slightly changed after the song was written. You can hear something one way and then hear it a whole other way.
Summer Walker vs. Victoria:: Summer Walker is this generations Mary in the realm of girls go through relationships. I love whos really pushing the needle for me right now: Gibion and Brent FIAs. I think Summer has the potential to be way bigger than she is.
Navigating Being Who You Are:: Neil Young says it feels like being a new artist because of how much the industry has changed. He says hes always looking for new artists, but hes very particular. Young says who hes gauging great and mediocre by is him.
Rihonda on Her Love of Music:: I got into the business because I love music. My joy comes from the producing, the writing, the singing, all of those things. At this point, Im doing the music that I feel like doing. If you dont like it, I dont care.
How To Write a Song:: Is your process always like listening to a beat and then structuring the whole song? Or do you ever write with other people? The only way that collaborative writing works is if its all done out here. Versatility is always going to be your friend.
Neurotic Advice From His Aunts:: Neo: The best advice that I was given was to not sweat the small stuff. In the grand scheme of all things, its all small stuff, he said. Hes working on a couple of artists that potentially could be part of that assignment.
Miles On:: IGs Miles music. He is a ridiculously talented singer, good songwriter, really good guitar player. Im trying to find the song that allows him to be the truest version of himself. Anything acoustic works. Were looking for everything. I need heat period, uptempos ballads.
Naja:: Naja is a young lady by the name of Naja. She is from Queens, New York. Shes not afraid to express herself sexually. Few and far between are the real ones. When you find them, keep them close.
Write A Song For Someone:: LZ: Do we change and do we try to approach what that person is doing? Or do we stay true to what we are good at? LZ: Write something thats amazing because you said it yourself. You got the rest of the day today to come up with some ideas. Neil will be back tomorrow.
Sen. Neil Gorsuch on Hillary Clinton:: So thats the energy. But again, dont not be you do what you do. Just do it for her. Thats all I got. Neil, thank you so much. Thank you appreciate it.
