How to Get Your First Hit:: My parents were wishing I went to university, college, but they were very supportive and they were in England. I kind of felt like I did the long way, which I was happy about. When I did have my first hit, I was ready. Ive really had confidence in I could do it again.
Writing 10,000 Songs:: I think how I got better was just doing I dont think theres really too many secrets. When a song works, its because a lot of things come together, isnt it? All of that has to come together to make it go to where youre hoping it can go.
Writing Songs When Youre 17:: Nicole Kidman says she wanted to be a songwriter but didnt have any money. She met Disclosure Boys when they were 1616 and 18. Latch was the first song she wrote that was on the radio. How many songs had she written up until the moment of Latch?
Sam and Disclosure:: Meet Sam was a game changer for me. Within two weeks, Id written Lay me down with Sam and wed gone to Rygate with Disclosure, and we wrote Latch. When you find each other, it happens quickly.
Sams Latch Album:: I loved being a songwriter and being able to pivot between making dance records with Disclosure on one day of the week and writing ballads with Sam. For me that was the best thing because its like keeping it fresh every time.
Sam's Stay With Me:: Stay With Me went on to become a massive hit. Other people tried to change it or make it something else or add something. Tour Mikkel said, no, its perfect. That was the most coolest, classiest move ever.
Thank You For Your Love:: So to just go, Wait a second. This is one of the best things Ive made, you got to kind of fight for it and make people believe in it. Thats a good lesson learned from you guys, too. Its created a really organic and respectful relationship between all of us.
Normani on Working With the Best:: How do you keep an artist, writer, producer relationship going? I think the best things happen organically, and if youre supposed to work together. What the best people do is let people do their thing, let the talent breathe.
How To Write A Song In A Week:: Dont be afraid to just put a load of ideas out. Life is so full of things to write about. Just flowing out ideas and letting things come through you is so important. How much do you prepare and how much of it is improvisation?
Youre Unholy: A New Sound for The band:: The bands new album, Unholy, sounds quite different in many ways than whats been going on before. For me, its just like having fun is where you get the best music, too. Music is not like a scheduled thing, is it?
The Birth of Wild:: Sometimes you have to bring something thats different and that doesnt fit. For me, personally, finishing stuff is something that I would definitely say is not my strongest point. But the bit that counts is the last 20% when you do have something.
How Do You Prepare For a Songwriting Session?:: Tyreek: I do play ideas before I go in. Being a good listener is really important. If you want to be a songwriter, producer, you have to be good listener. Just do what you do naturally, which is make music, have fun.
Sams Advice For Starting Your Career:: Not trying to bite off more than you can chew or aim for the stars at the beginning. surround yourself with good, clever people that you trust that are in the same part of their journey as you are. Because then youre going to get their love and their time.
Let the Music Do the Talking:: Would you release independently or would you have waited until you had Lay Me Down? I like to just kind of let the music do the talking. Its like the universe is going to make it happen.
On Playing Songs For People:: Jimmy Fallon: Have you ever had a song where truly everyone you played it to before their perception was influenced by its release? He says if theres something in it that you love, you got to keep fighting for that. Fallon: Its just about connecting the dots and those final pieces to get it over the line.
3 Chords And The Truth:: Three chords and the truth is the assignment. You really have to dig deep into an idea and in its simplicity is its beauty. Advice would be to try and say something that youre afraid to say. Its kind of the hardest assignment, but its the best assignment.
What is your favorite chord?:: Elton John uses it a lot and its like an A major with a C sharp in the bass. It just is uplifting. Whenever I play that, Im like, oh. Just makes me feel so good.
