Our mentor this week, shes a multitalented. Should I, artist, start as an artist? Well hear all about songwriter, producer, A R, artist development. She really has a lot of strength, lot of talent. Her main ability is to make things happen.

Jenna Anders Gets the First Week:
:
Please welcome Jenna Anders. How are you guys? Well, Im excited this is the first week. So its cool to meet all of you guys. Thanks for having me.
Drake on Developing Young Talent:
:
Kanye Wests passion is finding and developing and nurturing young talent. His first step was really like, okay, Im going to work in radio. He then went into broadcasting and executive produce. What were those first few steps that really got him to the next level?
Open Mic: New York:
:
I was there seven days a week, like a year and a half every single day doing open mics. New York is insane because literally, people will boo you. You meet some really cool people, but if anything, it gives you thick skin.
How to Develop Artists:
:
Jen: The drive and the hunger and the humility is rare. I think theres so much access now, so I think that people think its easier than it was. But in my opinion, I think it might be harder.
It's Not Good Enough:
:
I think practice makes perfect. The humility of not thinking that youve arrived when youve literally just arrived is so important. As creative people, we continue to grow. The more we learn, the more exciting it is.
Open Mic:
:
Open mics are powerful or anything that you can get in front of. Go down to Third Street Promenade and do a song. Success is what? Preparation, luck, and opportunity. Who will do it first?
How I Got Signed to Def Jam:
:
The singer says he got signed to Def Jam on the spot. He played two songs for La and ended up being signed there for like seven years. It was like kind of an old school experience, he says.
The Song That Got Signed:
:
I just want to hear what got you noticed. Let me see if I can find it. Did they release the song that got you Noticed? It never got released, which is why it's like hard to find You never know, right?
Ke$ha on Her Signing Contract:
:
I think I was scared to stand up for my vision, so I think they sort of pulled me in so many directions. Had I had been able to really standup for what I wanted to do and not just kind of say yes all the time, it could have been a lot different.
Do Your Research Before Becoming a Producers:
:
I think that its just theres, of course, awareness. If you feel like in your gut this doesnt feel right, walk away. People like you exist. Do your research. The female artists that Ive been lucky enough to work with there have been absolute savages.
How To Get Out Of A Boot Camp:
:
Young females walking into rooms of a bunch of old dudes, or not even old, but just, like, strong willed. Theres a certain amount of bluster and BS in this business too. In those situations, as good as the opportunity seems, there will be another one.
Drake on His Exit From Def Jam:
:
Rapper Tori Kelly was dropped by Def Jam. He pivoted and found other ways to be in music. What was it that clicked and led you into another area? Trust the process.
Majid on His Magic EP:
:
Majid says he loves vocal production just because he sing. He started doing a lot of vibe music. He says its impossible to write hits if youre trying to sell your soul. The journey has been interesting.
How A R Got You Into This:
:
A R really opened those gates for me, especially in signing Lenin. It really grew my career to a point where it was not at. Yes, Id been getting real cuts and things, but nothing super successful. Now Im able to go into a world which is a mystery for a lot of people, myself included, the Kpop world.
How To Write A Song In 60 Minutes:
:
Just bring your best stuff all the time and it doesnt matter where it came from. Dont get too stuck on the process of songwriting. It doesnt always start on the piano from scratch. Lets start with something thats already on its way.
Ron and Steven:
:
I still remember the day I heard it because I really was like and again, I was sort of in my A R bag at the time too, he said. He identified the song, definitely. But let's get a verse in a chorus, please. Can we hear the finished?
Butter:
:
How did you come up with the concept for Butter? Sometimes when you have a great lyric idea when youre in the zone, I feel like it just comes to you. The melodies on the verse kind of pays respect to the music I came up on.
Kpops Unapologetic Pop:
:
Kpop is unapologetic pop music, which is almost the opposite of where American pop music is now. It needs to feel very DIY and raw and real, which I love. I think the TikTok era of Base or Bedroom music is getting really worn out.
Kpops Fandom Lessons:
:
You have to think of them as performance records, not just songs. If were looking to do an American crossover K pop song, then you still have to use the rules to American pop as well. Kpop is an idea that they talk about fandom. Do you think its possible?
How to Get Your First Shot:
:
It is kind of the same thing now because its like you get your first shot into the door, but then it makes it harder because youre not building. Youre not technically developing yet you really are developing. So its almost unfair to the artist a little bit.
Are You Polishing Yourself On TikTok?:
:
How do you polish yourself if you are that bedroom artist? By not trying to connect with audience on TikTok, the attention is on social media. You cannot plan it or control it. Theres still a way to be an important artist with true fans.
Gangsta on the Music Industry:
:
You mentioned earlier that you think were on the brink of a big change in the music industry. I think that labels have to go back to really signing things that are what they used to be. In terms of going back to the Kpop thing, I think theres been rumors of having not Kpop that genre.
How Musics Algorithms Have Changed:
:
How do you think the algorithm in the music industry has changed? I think personal playlists are overriding that. People are paying less attention to those bigger playlists that labels were relying on. In that sense, its affecting how people are consuming music.
Songwriters: Pitch Songs:
:
With songs for pitch, pool, pop or otherwise, how often do you find that the production is also getting picked up by the artist? In terms of Kpop, theyre looking just for big pop songs. What is the kind of songs labels are looking for right now?
Top 3 Advice For Songwriters & Producers:
:
Can you give us the top three advice for artists and for songwriters? Producing, I think, define a sound is really important You have to have the balance of listening to what they want, but also standing your ground
Third Advice for New Producers:
:
Third advice. In the beginning of being able to hustle and be able to create relationships and just continue having confidence. But still being humble enough to learn from another creative. But be strong into your own vision and things like that.
Songwriters: Dont Close Any Doors:
:
As an artist, put yourself out there as much as possible. Being a songwriter is probably the hardest job in our industry. Sharpen your tools. Go out there and take risks.
Uplempo: Any Artist Projects or Songs:
:
CNNs iReport wants to hear what challenges and prompts you want to give. Is this basically songwriting for stuff that Im working on or your own artist stuff too? I would love to hear any artist projects or songs that you guys want to work on.

:

Writing for Despicable Me 3:
:
